Japanese PM meets Modi, seeks to boost bilateral ties and investment

New Delhi, Sept 9 (UNI) Reaffirming to boost India-Japan ties, the two countries on Saturday decided to work together in areas ranging from advanced technology to maintaining and strengthening free and open international borders based on the rule of law.
On an official visit to India to participate in the Leaders' Summit being held in New Delhi, Japanese Prime Minister Kishida Fumio held a Japan-India Summit Meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
During the meeting, Prime Minister Kishida stated that Japan-India relations have steadily progressed in recent years and called for cooperation in improving the investment environment in India toward the realization of the 5-trillion-yen target of public and private investment and financing from Japan to India in the next five years.
Both leaders welcomed that the provision of a 400-billion-yen loan for the construction project of the high-speed rail, a flagship project of Japan and India, is underway.
"The two leaders welcomed the various initiatives being taken for the “Japan-India tourism exchange year,” which was agreed on in March this year and concurred to continue to promote it in both countries," a media release from the Japanese embassy in New Delhi said.
