New Delhi, Nov 26 (UNI) Following the Supreme Court of India's lead in creating employment opportunities for individuals with physical and intellectual disabilities, the Gujarat High Court opened its own Mitti Café on Monday.
The initiative, introduced in the Supreme Court on November 10 last year under the leadership of the then Chief Justice of India Dr. DY Chandrachud, is a model project aimed at fostering inclusivity.
The café employs specially-abled individuals, who receive specialized training to operate and manage its daily activities, promoting self-reliance and independence.
Gujarat High Court Chief Justice Sunita Agarwal presided over the inauguration of the café on the court premises, reaffirming the judiciary's commitment to inclusivity.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Justice commended the café staff for their enthusiasm and skill, setting a benchmark for similar projects nationwide.
This initiative has been supported through corporate social responsibility contributions from the State Bank of India and the Dalmia Charitable Trust.
Additional support has come from the Kapila and Nirmal Hingorani Foundation and FICCI FLO.
Senior Advocate Priya Hingorani, leading the Kapila and Nirmal Hingorani Foundation, expressed their commitment to ensuring that specially-abled individuals find inclusion in the mainstream workforce.
The event saw attendance from the Gujarat High Court's judges, Advocate General, lawyers, and court officials, who lauded the efforts of the café team as they embarked on this transformative journey.
