Heavy rainfall likely over Northwest India on March 1 & 2: IMD

New Delhi, Feb 27 (UNI) Parts of Northwest India are expected to witness widespread moderate rainfall from March 1 to 3, with the possibility of heavy rainfall on March 1 and 2, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Tuesday.
According to IMD, “an active western disturbance is likely to affect the Western Himalayan Region from February 29 and the plains of northwest India from March 1 to 3, with peak intensity on March 1 and 2.”
“High moisture feeding from the Arabian Sea to northwest India is also likely during March 1 to 2,” it said.
Under its influence, fairly widespread to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning is very likely over the Western Himalayan Region during March 1 and 3, the IMD said.
The Met department further said, “Scattered to fairly widespread moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning is very likely over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Delhi, and isolated to scattered moderate rainfall over Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan on March 1 and 2.”
“Isolated heavy rainfall and snowfall are very likely over Jammu, Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit, Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, and Himachal Pradesh on March 1, and isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall and snowfall are likely over these regions along with Uttarakhand and Punjab on March 2,” the IMD said.
The weather department further predicted hailstorm activity is very likely at isolated places over Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, Haryana, Chandigarh, Punjab, and West Uttar Pradesh during March 1 and 2.
