3 convicted hijackers, 4 others hanged in Pakistan jails

Islamabad, May 28 (UNI) Three convicted hijackers and four death-row prisoners were executed in various jails of Pakistan early today. Shahsawar Baloch, Sabir Baloch and Shabbir Baloch were convicted for hijacking an airplane in May 1998. While Shahsawar and Sabir were hanged in Central Jail Hyderabad of Sindh, Shabbir was sent to gallows in Central Jail Karachi. Their mercy plea had been rejected by the President. The three men had hijacked Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flight 544 en-route from Turbat to Karachi, just four days before Pakistan’s nuclear tests in May 1998, according to news website The News. However, the hijackers' attempt was foiled by the Pakistan Army and all the three were arrested. Besides, another four prisoners on death row were executed in Sahiwal, Haripur, Sargodha and Karachi jails. UNI XC SV SB 0955
