Ties between two neighbouring nations difficult, India-Pak no exception: Raghavan

Islamabad, May 28 (UNI) India’s High Commissioner to Pakistan T C A Raghavan has said that relations between any two neighbouring countries were always difficult, India and Pakistan being no exception. He, however, said things could improve depending on future policies crafted by the nations. “Relations between neighbouring countries are always difficult and ties between India and Pakistan are no exception. But things can improve depending on the kind of policies we craft in future,” he said in a lecture on “History and Diplomacy: Contextualising India-Pakistan Relations” at the Habib University in Karachi yesterday. The High Commissioner said there were many issues in Indo-Pak relations on which there were clear disagreements. These included Jammu and Kashmir, water, ceasefire violations along the Line of Control etc. There were also matters where both countries had commonalities like culture, music, cinema etc. Elaborating on his assertion that relations between two neighbouring countries were difficult, he said that in Asia, relations between Japan and South Korea and Japan and China were difficult. He said there was a wide spectrum from which India and Pakistan could choose Canada and the US on one hand and North and South Korea on the other. “In terms of policy, the choice is ours,” he said.
