Centre gears up for stormy week of Budget session

New Delhi, Mar 1 (UNI) With the presentation of the Railway and the general Budgets being over in the first week of the current Parliament session, the Centre is now gearing up for important legislative business next week beginning tomorrow, which would see discussions on a number of bills introduced to replace the Ordinances promulgated during the inter-session. The controversial land Bill and The Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Amendment Bill, 2014, introduced last week amid stormy scenes in the Lok Sabha, will be taken up for consideration and passing tomorrow. The government, which faced strong opposition both inside and outside Parliament over the Land Acquisition Amendment Bill because of its provision to do away with the consent clause for project of strategic and public importance, has however, said it was ready to incorporate some changes if it was convinced that they were in the interest of farmers. The assurance had come from none other than Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself during his reply in the Lok Sabha to a marathon 13-hour discussion on the Motion of Thanks to the President’s Address. Other Bills to replace the rest of four Ordinances on different issues will be taken up first in the Lok Sabha. Business Advisory Committees of both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha have discussed the Legislative Business proposed by the Government for the second week of the Parliament session and allotted time for different Bills. Two other Ordinance Replacement Bills-- The Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Bill, 2015 and The Coal Mines (Special Provisions) Bill, 2015 have been listed for introduction tomorrow while the Bill to replace the Insurance Laws (Amendment) Ordinance has been listed for introduction in the Lok Sabha on March 3. The government earlier withdrew the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2014 pending before Lok Sabha before introducing the new Bill to replace the related Ordinance. More UNI NAZ PR RP1340
