Kejriwal-Centre row: SC to hear Union govt plea tomorrow

New Delhi, May 28 (UNI) The Supreme Court will hear tomorrow the Union government's plea challenging the Delhi High Court judgement which held that the Lieutenant Governor (LG) has no power in the posting and transfer of bureaucrats in the Delhi government. The top court vacation bench, comprising Justices Arjan Kumar Sikri and Uday Umesh Lalit, after hearing a mentioning by the Centre, said they will hear the matter tomorrow as Additional Solicitor General (ASG) Maninder Singh urged the court to hold an urgent hearing of the matter. The High Court in its verdict on May 25 had said that the Central government's notification was erroneous in putting all the services under the LG. The Union Home Ministry last evening filed a Special Leave Petition (SLP) in the Supreme Court challenging the court's judgement on the Centre's recent notification. In the petition, the MHA submitted to the apex court that the High Court had passed the order without hearing its view. The Union Home Ministry recently issued its gazette notification on May 21 that gave absolute powers to the Delhi L-G on transfers and postings of senior officers. UNI XC SV SB 1141
