Bemetara, Apr 29 (UNI) Nine people were killed, and 23 others injured in a collision between two vehicles in Chhattisgarh's Bemetara district on Monday, police said.
The dead included five women and three children.
The incident took place near Kathia petrol pump under the Bemetara police station area around 2.30 am on Sunday, they said.
All the people were returning to Pathra from Tiraiya village after attending a family function. During this, his vehicle was hit by a pickup.
The collision was so strong that nine people died on the spot. Immediately, the police and administration teams reached the spot, started relief and rescue work, and took the injured to the hospital. The condition of some of the injured is stated to be critical.
All senior officials, including Bemetara District Collector Ranvir Sharma and Superintendent of Police Ramkrishna Sahu, reached the hospital.
All the victims were residents of Patharra village, police said.
The deceased were identified as Bhuri Nishad (50), Neera Sahu (55), Geeta Sahu (60), Agniiya Sahu (60), Khushboo Sahu (39), Madhu Sahu (5), Rikesh Nishad (6), and Twinkle Nishad (6). One is yet to be identified.
