UP govt suspends senior tax officer over Rs 5.95 cr fake ITC scam

Lucknow, Oct 31 (UNI) The Yogi Adityanath-led Uttar Pradesh government has taken major disciplinary action in the State Tax Department, suspending Deputy Commissioner of State Tax Rajesh Kumar Dwivedi with immediate effect over a Rs 5.95 crore fake Input Tax Credit (ITC) scam, officials confirmed today.
According to the departmental inquiry, Dwivedi committed serious irregularities during his tenure as Assistant Commissioner in Gorakhpur. He allegedly failed to follow mandatory guidelines while approving GST registrations for Tiwari Enterprises, Dinesh Enterprises, and Himanshu Traders.
The investigation found that the declared business premises of these firms were non-existent, yet Dwivedi delayed cancelling their registrations. This lapse allowed the firms to fraudulently transfer bogus IGST ITC outside the state, causing a revenue loss of Rs 5,95,18,980 to the government.
