52 Bathinda jail inmates on hunger strike demanding TV: Advocate

Chandigarh/Bathinda, May 13 (UNI) As many as 52 Bathinda jail inmates, most of them gangsters, have been on hunger strike for more than 24 hours; their demands include installing a Television Set, Advocate Vikram Anand told UNI on Saturday.
He said inmates were protesting ''inhuman conditions'' in jail adding that the other demands of inmates include increasing the numbers of calls allowed to them, which was currently five as, in such a scenario, they can not even talk to their advocates; allowing them to top up their canteen cards for an amount of One Thousand rupees which was earlier not a problem but now it was.
Also, the inmates wanted to be allowed to ''roam free'' in jail instead of keeping them in their cells 24X7.
