Srinagar, May 1 (UNI) Police have arrested 145 drug peddlers and recovered contraband substances worth Rs 1.88 crore from them during this year in Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla district.
Among the 145 drug peddlers, 79 were booked under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and 36 under the PITNDPS Act. Besides, 14 vehicles used for the trade were also seized during the period, police said on Wednesday.
Police have also recovered contraband and psychotropic substances worth Rs 1.88 crore (value of contraband in black market).
The contraband seized during the first four months of this year in the district including brown sugar (432 grams) worth Rs 73.71 lakh, Heroin 197 grams worth Rs 38.31 lakh, Charas 3.864 grams worth Rs 25.75 lakh, cannabis powder (60.97 kg) worth Rs 40.77 lakh, Spasmoproxywon Plus (972 tablets) worth Rs 58000, and Codeine Phosphate 65 Syrups costing Rs 15,000, they said.
Police have also claimed that due to sustained action, heroin cases have seen a continuous reduction, and there is a steep dip in instances of usage in Baramulla.
Police have urged people to come forward with any information regarding drug peddling in their neighbourhood.
Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law, police added.
