Fake billing scam unearthed in Lucknow under GST; Rs 2.49 crore fraud detected

Lucknow, Nov 02 (UNI) A major fake billing scam has been uncovered in Lucknow under the Goods and Services Tax (GST) system, in which the government reportedly suffered losses worth crores of rupees. According to the State Tax Department, a firm named M/s Shinde Enterprise fraudulently passed on Input Tax Credit (ITC) worth Rs 2.49 crore without carrying out any genuine business activity, officials confirmed today.
Based on an official report submitted by Deputy Commissioner of State Tax, Dr Sanjay Singh, Shinde Enterprise was issued GST registration (GSTIN-09CWCPS8412E2ZD) on March 26, 2025. In its GST return for April 2025, the firm declared outward supplies worth Rs 12.90 crore and ITC of Rs 2.49 crore, even though there were no inward supplies (purchases) reflected in its GSTR-2A.
A team from the State Tax Department conducted a surprise inspection on June 11, 2025, at the firm’s registered address Ground Floor, Shop No. 10, Kanpur Road, LDA Colony, Lucknow. However, no such firm was found at the location, and local residents confirmed that no business by that name had ever operated there. Furthermore, the mobile number provided in the GST registration was found to be switched off.
