Punjab: 250 companies of central forces to ensure fair polls

Chandigarh, May 15 (UNI) At least 225 more companies of central forces will be arriving soon in the state to instil confidence among the general public as well as to dominate sensitive and hyper-sensitive areas before and during the Lok Sabha polls, a top police officer said on Wednesday.
With 25 companies of Central forces already deployed in the state, a total of 250 companies are being mobilised besides 80 percent of the state police force to ensure the elections are free and fair, Special Director General of Police (Spl DGP) Law and Order Arpit Shukla said.
The Special DGP was on a whirlwind tour of Amritsar and Jalandhar to hold range-level meetings with Border Range IGP/DIG, CPs, and SSPs for reviewing the security arrangements and take stock of preparations for the upcoming elections.
