4 dead, many missing after cloudburst triggers landslide, flash floods in Uttarakhand

Dehradun, Aug 5 (UNI) At least four people have reportedly died and an unspecified number of villagers are missing following a cloudburst that triggered flash floods in the Dharali area of Uttarkashi district in Uttarakhand today, local authorities and state disaster relief sources said.
The cloudburst occurred in the catchment area of the Kheer Ganga river, sources said.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has promised all possible assistance from the Central government. Uttarakhand Chief Minister stated in a post on X: “Relief and rescue operations are underway by the district administration, Indian Army, NDRF, and SDRF teams in the affected areas of Dharali (Uttarkashi). People are being evacuated to safe locations on a priority basis, and the situation is being continuously monitored. The administration is fully alert and providing all possible assistance to the affected citizens.”
