Chandigarh, Feb 23 (UNI) Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Friday announced that the sister of Shubkaran Singh, who died of bullet wound during a clash between security forces and the protesting farmers, will be given a government job. along with a financial assistance of Rs one crore to the aggrieved family.
Mann described it as a humble gesture towards the family of the 21 year old deceased, and bemoaned that the young farmer fell prey to the ‘bullet of hatred’ when he was merely exercising his democratic right.
Shubkaran died at the Khanauri border between Punjab and Haryana. The protesting farmers' unions and parties like Aam AAdmi Party and Congress have claimed he was killed in police firing.
Mann said the state government is solidly by the side of the bereaved family in its hour of crisis.
He reiterated the firm commitment of the state government to put the perpetrators of the gruesome murder of the young farmer behind bars. He said exemplary punishment will be given to those responsible for the death of the youth.
Mann said the people responsible for this heinous crime deserve no leniency and will be duly punished for their sin.
After an investigation, an FIR will be registered against the people responsible for the death of the youth.
He said the state government is fully with the food growers of the state who have been unduly stalled, by the forces inimical to the state, from going to the national capital for peaceful protest to claim their genuine demands.
He said it was "unjustified, unwarranted and intolerable" as Punjabis are being targeted despite their immense contribution in the freedom struggle, making the country self-reliant in post-independence days and then safeguarding the borders of the country. UNI GS SY SSP
