Three independent MLAs withdraw support to Haryana govt, Congress demands fresh polls

Chandigarh, May 7 (UNI) Three independent MLAs on Tuesday withdrew their support from the BJP government in Haryana and announced their allegiance to the opposition Congress, which claimed Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini has lost majority and demanded imposition of president’s rule and immediate fresh elections.
The BJP, however, claimed there was no threat to its government.
The three legislators - Randhir Gollen, Dharampal Gonder and Sombir Sangwan – made the sudden announcement at a media meet in Rohtak.
Gondher said they were disappointed over the BJP removing Manoharlal Khattar as Chief Minister and the government’s handling of issues related to farmers. Golan also raised the issue of unemployment and inflation.
The three legislators also said they would back the Congress in the coming election.
Seizing on the opportunity, state Congress stalwart and former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda welcomed the MLAs’ stand and claimed that the BJP government has been reduced to a minority.
He demanded immediate imposition of president’s rule and fresh Assembly elections.
On the other hand, state BJP spokesperson Jawahar Yadav told the media that the issue of majority is decided in the Assembly and the present government has already proved its majority support in the House in March. Yadav said whenever the opportunity comes, the government would prove its majority in the House again.

Flaying the Congress, Saini said the grand old party was incapable of fulfilling the needs of the public as a whole, and so it was intent on fulfilling the desires of a few people.
