Opposition targets Punjab govt over land pooling policy at Baba Bakala rally

Chandigarh, Aug 9 (UNI) Major political parties in Punjab turned the annual Rakkhar Punia fair in Baba Bakala, Amritsar, into a platform for political showdowns, with the controversial land pooling policy taking center stage.
Opposition parties, including Congress and Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), seized the opportunity to criticize the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government ahead of the upcoming bypoll in Tarn Taran, located approximately 40 km away, though its date remains unannounced.
Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, expected to address the gathering alongside his cabinet, was absent, with Cabinet Minister Harbhajan Singh ETO stepping in to deliver the speech. The opposition capitalized on this, framing it as a sign of the government’s disengagement.
