Lucknow, April 19 (UNI) Approximately 36.96 per cent of 1.44 crore voters polled their votes till 1 pm, across eight parliamentary constituencies in the first phase of Lok Sabha elections in Uttar Pradesh, as per polling officials.
According to Election Commission data, a maximum 42.32 per cent votes were polled on Saharanpur seat, whereas Rampur witnessed the lowest turnout of 32.86 per cent till 1 pm.
At the same time, 36.08 per cent polling was done in Bijnor, 37.92 per cent in Kairana, 35.25 per cent in Moradabad, 34.51 per cent in Muzaffarnagar, 38.28 per cent in Nagina and 38.51 per cent in Pilibhit.
The office of the Chief Electoral Officer in the state said that polling continues peacefully, and barring minor glitches, no untoward incident was reported.
"From some places, there were complaints regarding problems with electronic voting machines, which were addressed timely, after which polling resumed," they said.
The polling, which began at 7 am, will continue till 6 pm.
Meanwhile, a report from Pilibhit district said that the voters boycotted polling at some places in support of their demands.
Villagers of Puraina village under Barkhera police station boycotted the poll process over their long pending demand for construction of a bridge over the river.
District Magistrate Sanjay Kumar Singh said that the administration and police officers have been asked to visit the spot, understand the situation and make necessary arrangements.
