Punjab extends Ashirwad Scheme deadline to 60 days

Chandigarh, Nov 15 (UNI) In a move aimed at widening access to financial support for eligible families, the Punjab Government has doubled the application window under the Ashirwad Scheme from 30 days to 60 days. Officials said the decision ensures that families preparing for weddings, often pressed for time and documentation, can now apply without undue pressure.
The Ashirwad Scheme (also known as the Shagun Scheme) is a welfare initiative by the Punjab government that provides financial assistance of ₹51,000 for the marriage of daughters from economically disadvantaged families.
Social Justice, Empowerment and Minorities Minister Dr. Baljit Kaur said the extension reflects the state’s commitment to a citizen-focused governance model. She noted that several families were previously missing out simply because the 30-day period was too short during busy wedding preparations.
