Stalin presents Rs 75 lakh cheque to Chess prodigy Gukesh

Chennai, Apr 28 (UNI) Taml Nadu Chief Minister M.K.Stalin on Sunday presented
a cheque for Rs 75 lakh to chess prodigy D.Gukesh for winning the FIDE Candidates
tournament.
The Chennai-born Gukesh, who became the second youngest to win FIDE candidates
title after his idol Viswanathan Anand, who had revolutionised the sport not only in Tamil
Nadu, but also across the country, will take on reigning world champion Ding Liren in
the World Chess Championship in November-December this year.
Grandmaster Gukesh met Mr Stalin at his camp office, after winning the FIDE Candidates
Chess Tournament-2024.
After congratulating him, Stalin, in the presence of Sports Development and Youth Welfare
Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin, presented him a shawl and a shield, besides presenting him
a cheque for Rs 75 lakh as cash reward on behalf of the state government.
Gukesh's parents were also present on the occasion.

Pant injured, walks off mid-session at Lord's

London, July 10 (UNI) India were dealt a major setback on the first afternoon of the third Test against England at Lord’s today as vice-captain Rishabh Pant walked off the field with a hand injury midway through the second session, leaving the Indian camp visibly anxious.
