Wayanad, Nov 23 (UNI) AICC General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi-Vadra was leading with 1,91,077 votes than her rivals in the Wayanad Lok Sabha bypoll at the end of eighth round of counting on Saturday.
While, Youth Congress State Secretary Rahul Mamkootathil was leading with 1,388 votes in Palakkad assembly by-poll and Left Democratic Front (LDF) candidate U R Pradeep was leading with 9,017 votes in Chelakkara by-poll.
At present, Priyanka Gandhi secured 2,86,523 votes, while her rivals LDF candidate Sathyan Mokeri bagged 95,446 votes and NDA candidate Navya Haridas got 53,675 votes, giving a significant lead to UDF candidate of 1,91,077 votes.
In Palakkad assembly by-poll, BJP candidate C Krishnakumar only got a lead in 1, 5, 6, 7 rounds in the BJP's stronghold Palakkad Municipal area, that the party ruled for the last 10 years, while UDF candidate Rahul Mamkoothail was leading with 1,388 votes at the end of the eighth round.
Counting was in progress at Pirayiri, Kannadi and Mathur panchayats in Palakkad assembly constituency, all of them are UDF and LDF bastions, considering the previous election status. CPI(M) candidate P Sarin stood third.
In Chelakkara Assembly constituency, CPI(M)-led LDF candidate U R Pradeep was leading with more than 9,281 votes against Congress-led UDF candidate Ramya Haridas and BJP-led NDA candidate K Balakrishnan.
The Wayanad and Palakkad seats are with UDF, while the Chelakkara is with LDF.
