Telangana records around 9.51 pc turnout till 9 am

Hyderabad, May 13 (UNI) An estimated 9.51 per cent of voters of over 3.31 crore electorate exercised their franchise in the first two hours till 9 am on Monday in the fourth and single phase election to 17 Lok Sabha seats in Telangana.
Polling for the 17 Lok Sabha seats and bypoll in Secunderabad assembly constituency in Telangana is underway with voters standing in queues to exercise their franchise .
Polling began at 7 am amid tight security and will end by 6 pm, barring a few places classified as sensitive where it will conclude by 4 pm.
The counting of votes will be taken up on June 4 nationwide.
Highest percentage of 13.22 recorded at Adilabad Parliamentary constituency (ST) recorded the highest percentage 13.22 in the first two hours while Hyderabad recorded lowest 5.06 percent voter turnout among the other parliamentary constituencies in the state.
The overall polling is going on peacefully but at some polling booths, polling was delayed for some time due to some technical problems in EVMs.
Former vice president M Venkaiah Naidu, BJP Telangana president G Kishan Reddy, AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi, actors Chiranjeevi, Allu Arjun and NTR junior were among the prominent persons who exercised their franchise in the Lok Sabha elections in Telangana.
Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) Commissioner and Hyderabad District Election Officer D Ronald Rose, cast his vote.
According to Director General of Police Ravi Gupta, elaborate arrangements were made for a free and fair poll by deploying 73,000 state police personnel besides 164 companies of central armed police force and other specialised units to ensure smooth and orderly polling.
Of the total 525 candidates, including 286 independents are in the fray, maximum number of 45 candidates in Secunderabad parliamentary constituency while the lowest number of 12 contestants is in the fray from Aliabad (ST) constituency.
