Devadula project crucial for upland Telangana, Says Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy

Hyderabad, Aug 10 (UNI) Telangana Irrigation, Food & Civil Supplies Minister Capt. N. Uttam Kumar Reddy on Sunday called the J Chokka Rao Devadula Lift Irrigation Scheme (JCRDLIS) a lifeline for upland, drought-prone areas of Telangana and stressed the need for its speedy completion.
After reviewing the project at Sammakka Sarakka Barrage and the off-take point in Gangaram village, Mulugu district, Uttam said the scheme aims to irrigate 5.57 lakh acres across nine districts. With a lift of 469 metres and an annual utilisation of 38.16 TMC, the Rs 18,500-crore project is being executed in three phases. Of this, Rs 14,168.49 crore has been spent, while Rs 4,331.51 crore is needed to clear dues, complete pending works, and finish land acquisition. Once completed, it will stabilise ayacut, provide drinking water, boost crop yields, and reduce migration from water-scarce regions.
Earlier in Khammam district, Uttam laid the foundation stone for the Rs 630.30-crore Jawahar Lift Irrigation Scheme at Vangaveedu in Madhira mandal, along with Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka and other ministers.
