Bengaluru, May 6 (UNI) Shockwaves reverberated through political circles in Karnataka as a complaint was lodged with the CBI and Karnataka Lokayukta on Monday, implicating Radhakrishna Doddamani, son-in-law of Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, and five others in an alleged scam amounting to Rs 800 crore.
The complaint, filed by BJP Bengaluru South District President NR Ramesh, specifically accuses Doddamani, serving as the Management Committee Chief in the Dr BR Ambedkar Medical College and Dr BR Ambedkar Dental College, as the central figure in the purported scandal. The charges levied against him range from corruption and cheating to forgery and misuse of power.
Accompanying Doddamani in the complaint are HS Mahadeva Prasad, Dr NT Murali Mohan, VS Kuber, and Public Relations Officer Amanulla Khan.
Ramesh, the complainant, alleges that the accused orchestrated a scheme to siphon off funds by enrolling ineligible students into MBBS and BDS courses through the fabrication of documents. He claims that despite numerous complaints being filed by various stakeholders, including members of the college administration and activists, no concrete action has been taken by the authorities.
Detailing the modus operandi, he asserted that the accused collected exorbitant sums ranging from Rs 1 crore to Rs 2 crore from each student, promising admission through fraudulent means. Ramesh further alleged that fake academic certificates were procured from colleges in Jharkhand and other states to facilitate admissions for students who had failed their class 12 exams.
Ramesh's complaint outlines a pattern of malpractice spanning over a decade, implicating Doddamani and his cohorts in a web of deceit and financial impropriety. Additionally, he accuses Amanulla Khan of leveraging his position to further the illicit activities, citing the ongoing construction of a medical college in Krishnagiri district of Tamil Nadu as evidence of potential money laundering.
Of particular concern is Doddamani's candidacy for the upcoming election in Kalaburagi, prompting allegations of political complicity and nepotism. He contends that Doddamani's swift rise within the academic ranks, despite a questionable academic record, underscores the need for a thorough investigation into the matter.
As the specter of corruption looms large over the Karnataka political landscape, the filing of the CBI complaint signals a pivotal moment in the quest for accountability and transparency. With public trust hanging in the balance, the onus now falls on investigative authorities to unravel the truth behind this alleged multi-million rupee scandal.
