Impact rule sans toss factor would have been more fun, hints Bangar

Bengaluru, April 2 (UNI) RCB Coach Sanjay Bangar has hinted that picking impact substitutes before toss would have added more fun to the game.
The fundamental concept behind introducing the impact player rule was borrowed from other team sports like football, rugby, basketball, and baseball, all of which allow teams to make tactical substitutions in the game. However, the toss factor does not apply for these sports. But it applies to cricket which poses a big challenge for think-tanks to get their combinations right and usage of impact substitutes.
Expressing surprise over tweaking of impact rule post-auction, Bangar hinted that it becomes slightly easier for teams to pick impact substitutes after the toss, which takes away all the fun of how they use them.
"Ideally it is a kind of introduction that we had on the impact rule which was a definition which every team sort of analysed. But at the later date, once the auction had happened then the impact rule was tweaked a little bit which sort of got everybody by surprise," he told reporters replying to an UNI query on the eve of RCB-MI match here on Saturday.
"So, I would have imagined that most teams would have probably taken a different approach had those rules been introduced slightly earlier," he added.
Despite the tweak, Bangar said the present rule certainly makes the game more dynamic, and gives teams a chance to play some exciting talents. "But having said that it is an even-playing field. Certainly makes the game more dynamic and we certainly look to maximise the impact rule induction. It gives us a chance to play some exciting talent that we have both in the batting and bowling department," he said.
