India claim gold in men’s compound team at World Archery

Gwangju (South Korea), Sep 7 (UNI) India achieved a historic breakthrough at the World Archery Championships today, as the men’s compound team delivered a golden performance by defeating France 235-233 in a nail-biting final, clinching the country’s maiden gold medal in the category.
The victorious team of Rishabh Yadav, Aman Saini and Prathamesh Fuge overcame stiff challenges on their way to the title, displaying grit and composure under pressure. Despite trailing 57-59 after the first set in the final, the Indian trio held their nerve and consistently scored to edge out the French side of Nicolas Girard, Jean Philippe Boulch and François Dubois. The result capped a remarkable run where India came from behind in every round of the knockout stages.
After receiving a bye in the opening round, India edged past Australia in a dramatic shoot-off 232(30)-232(28), narrowly beat the USA 234-233 in the quarterfinals, and staged another comeback against Turkiye in the semifinals, winning 234-232. The triumph marked a watershed moment for Indian archery, as the compound men’s team had never previously reached the summit at the Worlds.
