England 57 runs away from winning series 3-1

London, Aug 3 (UNI) England surged ahead in their second innings on Day 4 of the ongoing Test at The Oval, reaching 317 for 4 at tea, with Harry Brook's electrifying 111 off 98 balls and Joe Root’s composed 98 leading the charge. The 161-run fourth-wicket partnership tilted the game heavily in favour of the hosts despite early inroads by India.
England began the day at 50 for 1 and went to lunch at 164 for 3. Ben Duckett brought up a fluent half-century before edging Prasidh Krishna to KL Rahul for 54. Ollie Pope looked stylish but fell LBW to Mohammed Siraj for 27, following a successful Indian review.
From 106 for 3, Brook and Root turned the tide. Brook began cautiously but soon launched into a fearless counterattack. His aggressive intent was highlighted by boundaries through gully, straight drives, and a six after Mohammed Siraj caught him near the ropes, only to step on the boundary cushion.
