65 children die of malnutrition in Melghat; Bombay High Court rebukes State Govt

Amravati, Nov 13 (UNI) At least 65 children aged between zero and six months have died due to malnutrition in the tribal-dominated Melghat region of Maharashtra's Amravati district since June, 2025 according to information presented before the Bombay High Court.
Taking serious note of the continuing deaths, the court on Wednesday strongly criticised the Maharashtra government, observing that it was not treating the issue of public health with the seriousness it deserves.
A division bench of Justices Revati Mohite-Dere and Sandesh Patil, while hearing a public interest litigation, said that although the court has been issuing directions on the matter since 2006, the government’s efforts remain largely limited to paperwork.
