Georgian police use water cannons to disperse protesters in Tbilisi

Georgia, Dec 7 (UNI) Georgian riot police units used water cannons to disperse protesters near the parliament building in Tbilisi, a Sputnik correspondent reported.

On Friday evening, the ninth opposition rally was taking place on Rustaveli Avenue in the center of Tbilisi, dissatisfied with the authorities' suspension of negotiations on the country's membership in the European Union.
Several thousand people gathered in front of the parliament, the most active of them are behaving aggressively - kicking the metal fence in front of the parliament, throwing stones and firecrackers at police officers, and using fireworks to shoot at police.
The latest series of opposition protests began in Georgia on November 28, after Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze announced his decision to suspend consideration of the issue of starting talks on the country's membership in the EU until 2028. Protesters are reportedly using firecrackers, stones, bottles, and even Molotov cocktails. Riot police in response use special equipment, including water cannons.
