North Korea's nuclear status recognition may be focus of China talks: Expert

Seoul, Jun 7 (UNI/SPUTNIK ) The issue of recognizing North Korea's nuclear status could become the main focus during the expected talks between Pyongyang and Beijing during Chinese President Xi Jinping's upcoming visit to North Korea, Professor Lim Eul-Chul from the Institute for Far Eastern Studies at Kyungnam University told Sputnik.
Following US President Donald Trump's visit to Beijing, the White House stated that the denuclearization of North Korea is a shared goal of the United States and China. In response, Kim Yo Jong, a vice department director of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea (WPK), said that North Korea would not compromise even an inch on the issue of nuclear disarmament, adhering to its line of strengthening the country's nuclear forces.
The expert called her statement an important signal to China, as it categorically refutes reports that the US and China reaffirmed the goal of the DPRK's denuclearization during the recent talks between their leaders.
