Turkish Prez's admin denies claims economic outlook grim for next 1.5 yrs

Ankara, Mar 28 (UNI) Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's administration has denied social media claims that a long, tough period lies before the country's economy for a year and a half, accusing those who disseminate this disinformation and stoking panic ahead of the municipal elections slated for Sunday.
Last week, the Turkish central bank raised the base rate by 500 basis points to 50 per cent, in a surprise to the market, which had expected the rate to remain unchanged or rise by 250 basis points.
"The claim by some social media users that 'Minister Simsek said, 'We are in for a very difficult process that will last 1.5 years'' is not true. Treasury and Finance Minister Mehmet Simsek has not used such an expression in any of his recent statements. Reports claiming that this is a 'statement by Minister Simsek' are disinformation," according to a statement from the Centre for Countering Disinformation of the Turkish presidency's Directorate of Communications to Sputnik.
