Romania scrambles fighters near Ukrainian border due to air raid alert

Moscow, Nov 5 (UNI/SPUTNIK) Romania scrambled two F-16 fighter jets and two German Eurofighter jets near the border with Ukraine due to an air raid alert, the Romanian Defence Ministry said.
"Following the signals detected by the surveillance systems and according to air police procedures, two F-16 aircraft deployed to Fetesti Air Base and, two German Eurofighter Typhoon aircraft deployed to Mihail Kogalniceanu Air Base, scrambled at 00.17, respectively at 02.45, to recon and to ensure the security of the national airspace," the ministry said in a statement yesterday.
The ministry noted that the mission commanders had permission to engage air targets if they entered national airspace and posed a threat to the safety of Romanian citizens. However, no unauthorized incursions into Romanian airspace were recorded, the statement added.
