Nitish orders crop residue burning be stopped

Patna, Jan 28 (UNI) Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Saturday instructed the officers concerned to initiate steps to stop the burning of crop residue in the fields to protect the environment.
While inspecting the developmental and welfare schemes in Murtajapur village of Belachi Panchayat in Patna district, Kumar expressed concern over the environmental hazards due to the burning of crop residues and asked the officers concerned to initiate measures to stop this practice, a major threat on the environment.
He also asked the officers to sensitise the people about the hazardous effect of it and apprise them of the alternatives of crop residue management. He said a check on crop residue burning was essential to minimise the threat of climate change and to safeguard the environment.
