No shortage of water in country, but lack of planning behind farmers’ suicides: Gadkari

Nagpur, May 10 (UNI) union Minister Nitin Gadkari today said that India does not face a shortage of water, but suffers from a lack of proper planning, which he termed as one of the major reasons behind rising farmer suicides.
Addressing a programme on agriculture and rural development here, Gadkari said the country has sufficient water resources, but poor planning and inefficient water management have created serious challenges for farmers.
He emphasised the need for scientific planning and effective implementation of irrigation projects to strengthen the agriculture sector and reduce agrarian distress.
