Bengaluru, Oct 13 (UNI) As New Zealand prepare for their upcoming Test series against India, head coach Gary Stead has shared insights on the absence of Indian pacer Mohammed Shami and the challenges that lie ahead for his team. Stead remarked that "injuries do not seem to significantly impact the Indian side, noting that they have capable players ready to step in and perform at a similar level."
He emphasised India’s impressive depth, stating that "the team boasts a large pool of skilled and experienced players, many of whom possess numerous Test caps." Stead acknowledged the difficult brand of cricket India plays, describing it as a considerable challenge for New Zealand as they gear up for the series.
On the topic of Tim Southee, Stead conveyed that Southee recognised his recent performance had not met expectations but expressed a strong desire to return to his best form.
Addressing Southee's decision to step down as captain, Stead explained that "while Southee had been leading the team effectively, management was consistently evaluating options that would serve the team’s best interests moving forward."
With the series on the horizon, Stead’s reflections highlight the strategic preparations necessary for New Zealand to rise to the challenge posed by a resilient and skilled Indian squad.
