Odisha health minister dies after being shot by cop

Bhubaneswar, Jan 29 (UNI) Odisha Health and Family Welfare Minister Naba Das died in a hospital here on Sunday after being shot by a cop.
Das was admitted to the ICU of Apollo Hospital, Bhubaneswar with gunshot wounds to the left chest, but could not be revived and succumbed to his injuries, the hospital said.
"On operating it was found that a single bullet had entered and exited the body, injuring the heart and left lung and causing massive internal bleeding and injury," the hospital said in a medical bulletin.
"The injuries were repaired, and steps were taken to improve the pumping of the heart. He was given urgent ICU care. but despite best of efforts, he could not be revived and succumbed to his injuries," said the hospital.
Police sources said Assistant Sub-Inspector Gopal Das shot at the Minister while he was on his way to attend a function.
Brajarajnagar SDPO G Bhoi said as per the preliminary reports, the ASI fired around four to five rounds at the Minister.The reason behind it is not yet known.After the incident, the Minister was immediately taken to the District Headquarter hospital Jharsuguda. After his condition deteriorated he was airlifted to Bhubaneswar. UNI DP SSP
