Thiruvananthapuram, May 20 (UNI) The award-winning German film “Sophie Scholl – The Final Days” (2005), a powerful biopic on anti-Nazi resistance activist Sophie Scholl, will be screened in the city on Wednesday at 6.30 pm.
The screening is being jointly organised by Goethe-Zentrum in association with Banner Film Society.
The film will be shown at the amphitheatre of Goethe-Zentrum at Jawahar Nagar, Kowdiar, and entry is free for the public.
Directed by Marc Rothemund and written by Fred Breinersdorfer, the film portrays the final days of Sophie Scholl, one of Germany’s most iconic resistance figures, who, along with her brother Hans Scholl, opposed Adolf Hitler’s Nazi regime by distributing anti-government leaflets at their university. Both were later executed by the regime.
The film was showcased at the 55th Berlin International Film Festival in February 2005, where it won Silver Bear awards for Best Director and Best Actress (Julia Jentsch). It was also nominated for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film in 2006.
