Pakistan asked Taliban leader Hibatullah Akhundzada to issue fatwa declaring war against it 'illegal'

Kabul, Nov 13 (UNI) A senior Taliban official said that the Pakistani delegation, during the two sides' recent talks in Istanbul had asked Taliban leader Hibatullah Akhundzada to issue a fatwa against the ongoing Afghan- Pakistan conflict, declaring any attacks on their fellow Islamic neighbour "illegal".
Rahmatullah Najib, head of Afghanistan's negotiation team and deputy interior minister in the Taliban administration, said the delegation rebuffed the request, telling Islamabad that Akhundzada "issues orders and decrees, not fatwas."
"The Afghan Taliban cannot declare the war in Pakistan either legitimate or illegitimate," Najib said, adding that the conflict "does not belong to the Taliban."
