Pakistani Senate tables vote for passage of controversial 27th Amendment amid opposition furore

Islamabad, Nov 10 (UNI) The Pakistani Senate, following massive uproar by the political opposition, has decided to table a vote on the passage of the controversial 27th Amendment, that seeks to restructure the country's military command and judicial system, a move critics say would consolidate unprecedented power in the Army Chief.
While the government maintains that the reforms are intended to modernise Pakistan's constitutional and defence systems, opposition lawmakers have called it a threat to the country's already fragile democracy, as it sees a significant shift regarding the balance of power between the military and civilian institutions.
It has also been called a downright abuse of power – as it grants certain high level officials immunity - preventing them being held accountable, or scrutinised by the law.

Tehran, Jan 14 (UNI) Iranian authorities are rapidly proceeding with launching a new comms project, engineered specifically to impose a total internet blackout on the country for as long as it deems fit, in a bid to fully control information flow and establish an iron chokehold on all essential services, as some parts of the country are still able to get internet service, while others are using patchy net services via accessing Starlink satellites.

US and Armenia unveil TRIPP framework to boost South Caucasus trade

New Delhi, Jan 14 (UNI) The United States and Armenia on Tuesday published an implementation framework for a US-backed regional transit initiative aimed at boosting connectivity and trade in the South Caucasus, the US State Department said. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan met in Washington to announce the release of the implementation framework for the Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity (TRIPP), a project intended to establish unimpeded multimodal transit routes through Armenian territory.
