PM Modi meets Australia Governor General, Leader of Opposition

New Delhi/Sydney, May 24 (UNI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday met Governor General David Hurley of Australia to discuss the bilateral ties and also met the Leader of Opposition Peter Dutton of the Liberal Party.
On his talks with Governor General Hurley, PM Modi in a tweet said:
“Delighted to meet Governor General David Hurley and discuss India-Australia relations. Stronger ties between our nations will contribute towards building a better planet.”
MEA spokesperson Arindam Bagchi in a tweet said the two discussed people to people ties.
“A warm conversation between PM @narendramodi and Governor General David Hurley of Australia in Sydney.
“Discussed people to people connect between India and Australia and strengthening of long-standing bilateral partnership.”
A statement said that during the talks, Prime Minister Modi recalled his meeting with the Governor-General in 2019 during the latter’s visit to India as Governor of New South Wales.
Both leaders discussed ways to strengthen the long-standing bilateral partnership.
Prime Minister recalled the positive contributions of the Indian community in Australia, and their role in fostering closer links between the two countries.”
On PM Modi’s meeting with the Leader of Opposition, Peter Dutton, the MEA tweeted:
“A relationship enjoying support across political spectrum.
PM @narendramodi had a productive meeting with Leader of Opposition @PeterDutton_MP in Sydney.
“PM Modi conveyed his appreciation for the strong bipartisan support that our partnership enjoys. Also discussed various aspects of bilateral ties, including people to people linkages, as well as regional developments.”
Peter Dutton, taking a selfie with PM Modi, said
“Wonderful to catch up again with a great friend of Australia, @narendramodi.
“Proud of the special and growing relationship Australia has with India and may it go from strength to strength in the years ahead.”
