PM Modi salutes Bengal’s icons and heritage, links culture with vision of 'Viksit Bharat'

Kolkata, Jan 18 (UNI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid rich tribute to Bengal’s cultural legacy and its great leaders, weaving history and heritage during his address in Singur in Hooghly on Sunday, as he projected the state’s role in building a 'Viksit Bharat'.
Speaking to a large gathering, PM Modi invoked icons from Bengal’s intellectual and freedom movements, while calling upon women and youth to become the drivers of change.
Emphasising social reform, the Prime Minister urged people to follow the ideals of Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar. “We need to walk on the paths of Vidyasagar. He made women and youth the medium of change. So women and youth need to raise their voice,” he said, alleging that the education system in the state is under the grip of “mafia and corrupt people.”
