Political Parties Must Respect the Constitution: Adv. Ashutosh Srivastava

Pune, May 10 (UNI) Senior legal luminary Adv. Ashutosh Srivastava said here on Sunday that both ruling and opposition parties must respect the spirit of the Indian Constitution and avoid interfering in the functioning of democratic institutions.
Srivastava said allegations of misuse of central investigative agencies by ruling governments are frequently made in the current political environment. However, he pointed out that the Indian Constitution has clearly decentralized powers among the pillars of democracy and expects each institution to function independently without interference from others.
He stated that if any ruling or opposition party interferes in the functioning of investigative agencies, the matter should be brought before the Supreme Court. According to him, despite continuous political allegations, the Supreme Court has not officially taken cognisance of any direct interference in the functioning of central agencies so far. He added that if such interference is proven, the apex court would certainly intervene to stop such practices.
