Post-mortem of Haryana IPS officer begins on ninth day

Chandigarh, Oct 15 (UNI) The post-mortem of senior Haryana IPS officer Y. Puran Kumar, who allegedly died by suicide, began today, nine days after the incident. His wife, IAS officer Amneet P. Kumar, gave her consent for the procedure earlier in the morning and was present at Chandigarh’s PGI Hospital during the process.
A medical board conducted the post-mortem in the presence of a magistrate and forensic as well as ballistic experts. The entire procedure was videographed to ensure transparency. Sources indicated that Kumar’s cremation was likely later in the evening.
Prof. Jaynarayan, head of the 51-member committee formed in the wake of the incident, said the Haryana government had acted on their earlier demands sending the DGP on leave and transferring the Rohtak SP. He added that the next demand centred on a fair probe by Chandigarh Police. The committee plans to submit a memorandum to Chandigarh Administrator Gulab Chand Kataria, seeking a legally monitored investigation.
