Chandigarh, Aug 7 (UNI) Punjab Vigilance Bureau has apprehended Kawaljit Singh, who was serving as Assistant Food Supplies Officer (AFSO) at Tarn Taran. Singh had been on the run since March 2024 after being named as an accused in a First Information Report (FIR) filed at the VB police station in Amritsar range.
An official spokesperson of the state VB stated, "The accused was arrested and named in the misappropriation case based on evidence collected during the investigation and the disclosure statement of a co-accused." According to the spokesperson, Singh, in collusion with others, had fraudulently sold government stock of wheat valued at Rs 1 crore 25 lakhs.
The accused AFSO was produced before the competent court today and has been granted one day of police remand to the VB. Further investigation is ongoing at the VB Unit in Amritsar, the spokesperson added.
