Puri Car festival: Daitas take charge of deities

Puri,June 2 (UNI) Count down for the June 20 annual Rath yatra (car festival) began on Friday with Daitas - a servitor community which conducts rituals begining from Snan Purnima till end of the grand event on Niladri Bije - entering the Srimandir.
They took charge of the deities from regular priests late Friday evening. They will retain charge for about a month.
The grand annual event will begin from June 20. The Daitas will prepare deities for the Snan yatra by fixing Chhenapattas (kind of body armours) to deities for Pahandi.
