R-Day 2026: EU leaders to be Chief Guests, ‘Vande Mataram’ will be central theme

New Delhi, Jan 16 (UNI) In a first-of-its-kind initiative, all enclosures at Kartavya Path for the upcoming Republic Day Parade will be named after rivers, while those for the Beating Retreat ceremony will carry names of musical instruments. Antonio Costa, President of the European Council, and Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, will be the Chief Guests at the 77th Republic Day parade.
The 2026 Republic Day celebrations will centre around the theme ‘Vande Mataram’, marking 150 years of the iconic patriotic song.
Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar, while addressing media on Friday, said that the upcoming Republic Day Celebration–2026 will showcase ‘Vande Mataram’ through a wide array of cultural, military and people-centric initiatives.
