Rain, storm alert across Punjab, Haryana as temperatures dip

Chandigarh, May 12 (UNI) Large parts of Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh witnessed a sharp change in weather conditions on Tuesday, with rain, thunderstorms, and gusty winds bringing relief from rising temperatures, while the Meteorological Department issued orange alerts for several districts over the next few days.
In Haryana, heavy morning showers were reported in Panchkula, Yamunanagar, and Karnal, while cloudy conditions prevailed in parts of Panipat and Sonipat, with more rainfall likely during the day. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an orange alert for Mahendragarh, Jhajjar, Rohtak, Rewari, Palwal, and Nuh, warning of strong winds at 60 to 70 kmph.
Officials said the recent spell of changing weather has led to a noticeable fall in temperatures across the state. Haryana’s average maximum temperature dropped by around 2.7 degrees Celsius over the past two days, providing partial relief from the heat. Rohtak remained the hottest district at 38.8 degrees Celsius, followed by Mahendragarh at 38.1 degrees and Hisar at 37.8 degrees. Bhiwani recorded the sharpest fall, with temperatures dipping by nearly five degrees.
