Russia vows swift retaliation against EU for indefinitely freezing sovereign state assets, says bloc's policy is 'devoid of logic'

Moscow/Brussels, Dec 13 (UNI) Russia will respond swiftly to the European Union's decision to indefinitely freeze Russian state assets held in European banks, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said today, warning that measures are already under way.
"Our response will not take long. Specific steps are already being implemented," Ms Zakharova said in a statement on the ministry's website, noting that the Bank of Russia had issued a detailed response on 12 December and filed a lawsuit the same day with the Moscow Arbitration Court against Euroclear to recover losses linked to the asset freeze, reports TASS.
Ms Zakharova accused the EU of pursuing a policy "devoid of rational logic" and "resembling a theatre of the absurd," arguing that Brussels' determination to "harm Russia at any cost" has ironically pushed its own economy into decline.
