Russian FM Lavrov denies alliance with US to pressure China into joining denuclearisation dialogue

Moscow, Oct 16 (UNI) Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has firmly rejected speculation about Moscow forming a possible alliance with the US to persuade China to join denuclearisation talks, stating that the Kremlin will never forge partnerships for targeting a third party.
In late September, Russian President Vladimir Putin suggested to his US counterpart, Donald Trump, that the two countries prolong by another year the last remaining arms control deal between them – the New START (Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty) arrangement – which is set to expire on February 5, 2026.
Trump had agreed with the proposal and called it "a good idea," though his statement is yet to be accompanied by any concrete action by the White House. Previously, Trump had repeatedly demanded that Beijing also be included in nuclear arms reduction negotiations between the US and Russia, given its own rising arsenal and capabilities.
