New Delhi, Oct 13 (UNI) The Supreme Court has refused to entertain a petition that alleged corruption in the purchase of coffins, snow shoes and other items in the 1999 Kargil War during the BJP-led NDA government.
The petitioner levelled serious allegations against the BJP government, which had dented the image of the former, headed by former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which was the probe agency in the case, had submitted a report to the apex court, informing that it has not been able to find anyone guilty of indulging in irregularity.
The top court allowed the CBI submission and dismissed the PIL.
After the Kargil war which took place in 1999 between India and Pakistan, there were allegations of corruption in the purchase of coffins by the then BJP-led Government, the PIL alleged.
The government had incurred a heavy loss in the entire transaction. Comptroller and Auditor General of India's report had found several fraud in the transaction of coffins.
The CBI was entrusted the case for investigation and it filed a charge sheet against three Indian Army officers in August 2009.
In December 2013, a special CBI court found no evidence and hence, discharged all the accused. The probe agency registered a case in June 2006 under Sections 420 (cheating), 120 B (criminal conspiracy) and the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.
The CBI filed a charge sheet in August 2009. Three major Indian Army officers and a company based in the United States were named in the charge sheet.
In December 2013, a special CBI court found no evidence and hence, discharged all the accused.
